A while ago the Cubby cloud storage service announced that it is shutting down this November. This must have left a lot of users wondering where to migrate their files, so we decided to make a step-by-step tutorial on how to move your files from Cubby to pCloud.
You only have 60 days to take move your Cubbies, so hurry up! As you will see from this article, the transfer is very easy and will not take long at all.
Step 1: Register for a pCloud account
If you already have a pCloud account, proceed straight to Step 3.
If not, go to pCloud’s Plans page and select your plan. You can sign up for a free account, of course, but if you need more space, we recommend the Premium Plus plan as it offers the best value for the (very little) money you would be paying.
Once you select a plan, fill in your email address and set a password. Then mark the checkbox to accept our Terms of Use and hit “Get Started”. If you have selected a Premium or Premium Plus plan, enter your payment details and proceed to checkout.
Step 2: Verify your email address
Once you’ve set up your account (that was pretty easy, wasn’t it!), you’ll be taken to the web version of your account. In the upper left corner, next to your email address, click on “Verify now”. This way you’ll unlock pCloud’s full functionality.
Step 3: Download & install pCloud Drive
Next, you need to download our desktop app, pCloud Drive. The app is available for Windows, macOS and Linux, and the installation process is super easy.
Once you install it, log in with the account you created on Step 1.
Step 4: Download your files from Cubby
Now that you have set up your account and have pCloud Drive patiently waiting for your files, you need to get them from Cubby:
1. Go to the computer to which you want to save your files.
2. Install the Cubby desktop app, open the app and login.
3. Hover over the folder you want to download, click SYNC next to the name of the computer you’re using and click the OFF switch so it reads ON.
4. After the files sync, your Cubby files will be on the local drive of your computer.
Step 5: Add your files to pCloud
There’s just one more step left before you can exhale and chill, knowing that all of your photos, videos, photos and important documents are safe and sound.
Open your pCloud Drive (it’s gonna look just like your computer’s file manager). Drag and drop the files and/or folders you got from Cubby to pCloud Drive. Give it a few minutes to upload everything (it may take a while if you’re transferring a large amount of data). That’s it!
When the upload is complete, you’ll have all of your files on your desktop (but they will not take any space on your local hard disk!), through the web version of pCloud, and also on any of the mobile apps we offer (iOS, Android, Windows 10 Mobile).
Step 6 (optional): Pat yourself on the shoulder.
By choosing pCloud for your files, you made a really smart choice. Take a minute to appreciate it and congratulate yourself.
